Hovatter Is Dead. Veteran Topeka Lintotype Operator A Victim of Heart Disease. Charles O. HOVATTER, 65, veteran Topeka printer and linotype operator, died at his home, 1008 Morris avenue, about noon yesterday from heart disease. He was stricken while working in the composing room of the Topeka State Journal about 10:30 o'clock and was taken home, where he died. He had operated one linotype machine on the State Journal for the past 27 years. Mr. HOVATTER was born in Phillppi, W. Va., December 29, 1861, and came to Kansas in 1886, settling at Atchison. he married Lavenia E. KNISLEY in Atchison the same year. They moved to Topeka in 1900. She died in 1910. Two years afterward he married Mrs. Laura E. GRAHAM, who survives him. Mr. HOVATTER was prominent in Masonic circles, being a member of Topeka lodge No. 17, A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite and the Abdallah shrine. He served on numerous committees of the Topeka Typographical union and at one time represented the union at the international convention. He also was a member of the First Baptist church and the Shawnee Camp. No. 2800, Modern Woodmen. Every person he knew became a friend. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, mrs. Mabel WILSON, Houston, Tex., a sister, Miss Mildred HOVATER, Phillpi, W.Va.; two step-sons, Russell M. GRAHAM, Des Moines, Ia., and Walter S. GRAHAM, Alamosa, Calif.; a brother-in-law, O.D. KNISELY, St. Joseph, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. J. W. DIJON, Atchison, and five grandchildren.
