Joseph Franklin MARTZ, 86, of 1133 Mulvane, a retired brick and stone mason, died Sunday afternoon in a local hospital. Born June 11, 1875, in Clark County, Illinois, he was the last survivor of Amanda and Michael Martz who lived in Virginia during the Civil War. He came to Kansas in a covered wagon and lived in Topeka more than 65 years. Survivors include five daughters, Miss Ruth Martz of the home; Mrs. Cecil CONNER of 1027 N. Central, Mrs. Ray HOPPER of 500 Emmett, Mrs. Edith EPLING of 625 Chandler and Mrs. Myrl STANLEY of Lower Lake, Calif.; three sons, Joseph Martz, Jr., of 1016 Jefferson, Clarence Martz of Tulsa, Okla., and George Martz, of Oakland, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 20 gret-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
