John M. Miller, Prominent in G.A.R., Was Legislator in 1884. John M. MILLER, Civil war veteran and a former state legislator and adjutant of Lincoln Post, G.A.R., died Thursday afternoon at his home, 1207 Lincoln street. Miller came to Kansas forty years ago and was elected to the legislature from Morris county in 1884. He served twenty-three years as adjutant of Lincoln Post and was three years assistant adjutant general of the G.A.R. He retired as adjutant a year ago because of ill health. He served three years in the Civil war, in Company K, 102d Illinois infantry and later in Company E., 188th, Illinios infantry. He was a member of several fraternal organizations, including the Knights and Ladies of Security, K. of P., and I.O.O.F. lodges. The funeral will be held from the Westminister Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, with short service by members of Lincoln Post. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
