Whitney Dead. Ends Life After an Illness of Nearly a Year. Mrs. May WHITNEY, wife of L.F. Whitney, 1630 Lincoln street, took her own life some time Saturday evening at the family home. Mrs. Whitney used a revolver, death resulting instantaneously according to Dr. F.E. Vest, who was called as soon as the body was discovered by the husband when he returned home after the closing hour of the store Saturday evening. The deceased had been ill for the past year, going to Rochester, N.Y., during the summer for special treatment. She returned to Topeka in August and had but recently undergone an operation at a local hospital with the hope of improving her hearing and vision. She had been home from the hospital but a few days. Mrs. Whitney came to Topeka eight years ago and had formed a wide and favorable acquaintance. Mr. Whitney accompanied by Mr. Fred Stewart, left for Rochester last night with the body, where burial will take place.
