Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Berryton. Mrs. Witte died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1992, at a Topeka retirement center. She was born May 8, 1904, in Richland, the daughter of George and Marie Gantz Lutz. She attended Lyons Grade School in Shawnee County. She and her husband farmed near Hardin, Mo., from 1927 to 1944, when they returned to Richland. She also had worked for the Hall and Stauffer families and later at the Watson Central and the Topeka Supply Depot. Mrs. Witte was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Topeka. She also was a member of Disney Home Demonstration Unit, Leonard-Brown-Woodward Unit No. 391 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Richland, Pauline Co-op, Berryton Grange and Monmouth Township Agricultural Assn. She married William August Henry Witte on June 26, 1927, at her family home in Richland. He died Jan. 5, 1960. Survivors include five daughters, E. Darlene Holliday, Albuquerque, N.M., Mildred Doud, Wakarusa, Wanda Hupp-Rone, Sweet Home, Ore., Shirley Weideman, Berryton, and Sylvia Palenske, Alma; a sister, Lena Herrmann, Berryton; two brothers, Emil Lutz Sr., Berryton, and Oscar Lutz, El Segundo, Calif.; 18 grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Today at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. To 8 p.m. Sunday.
