Civic Leader At St. Marys Is Dead at 74.
Clarence M. YOCUM, 74, of St. Marys, general manager of the Farmers Union
Cooperative business association 42 years and mayor of St. Marys six years, died
in a Topeka hospital Thursday. 
He had been ill about three months.
Mr. Yocum was born April 9, 1887, at Rossville and moved with his parents to St.
Marys when he was six years old. He attended public schools there and the St.
Marys College.
He taught school for nine years in the community and became Farmers Union
general manager, July 1, 1919. 
On Dec. 12-16, 1960, WIBW-TV promoted a celebration in honor of Mr. Yocum for
his distinguished service in the community.
Hundreds of his friends attended the event.
On May 1, he received his 50-year Masonic pin. He served nine years on the city
commission.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary D. Yocum, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Betty
Jane HART, and two grandchildren, Nancy and Robert Hart, all of 1711 Fairmont
Road; two sistes, Mrs. Pearl BARNES of Liberty, Mo.; and Mrs. Alice SIBLEY of
Landisburg, Pa.; and a borther, George Yocum of St. Marys.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Congregational Lutheran Church of St.
Marys with burial in the Valley View Cemetery.
Special music will be furnished by the Rev. Ernest HUNTZINGER of Topeka who
willbe accompanied by Miss Beth OVESON of Overbrook. 
Friends may call at th eVerschelden Funeral Home from 5 p.m. today until 1 p.m.
Saturday at which time the body will be taken to the church for services.
