T. Hartsook The only new case filed in the district court yesterday was that of petition for divorce by Naomi Hartsook against William T. Hartsook. The plaintiff avers that she was married to Hartsook November 17, 1882, in Missouri. Shortly after their marriage Hartsook showed gross neglect of his duty as a husband by taking $600 ($400 of it in cash) from his wife and appropriating it to his own use. Although ? man in robust health, able to support his family, Hartsoo is alleged to have basely failed and refused to do any work, leaving his wife and children destitute and compelled to seek the support of friends. In the winter of 1883, plaintiff goes on to charge, when the youngest child was but two or three months old, Hartsook moved his family into a house unfit for tenant use, open and unsheltered. Here he compelled them to live through the entire winter, insufficiently clad and actually destitute of the comforts of life. This kind of treatment continued unti four years ago when his wife unable as she were to tolerate longer such a life, left home and with her two youngest children came to Kansas, where, with a married daughter, she has since lived. In addition to the charges mentioned above, plaintiff alleges that Hartsoo visited extreme cruelty on her, shortly after their marriage becoming morose, quarrelsom, ill natured and abusive, frequently using improper epithets towards her, behaving in a vulgar and unbecoming manner in the presence of their children and making false accusations to bring her into disrepute; and that he also maltreated her in such other ways as to make living with him intolerable. Issue of the marriage are three children, Charles O., aged 16, Mollie D., aged 13 and Ophia J. aged 6, the plaintiff having care and custody of the last two. She alleges finally that there is no hope of a reconcilliation or that the parties can ever live with each other amicably as becomes husband and wife. She therefore prays for divorce, judgment for costs and such other and further relieve as may be proper. The Topeka State Journal Thur May 16, 1889 pg 10 Naomi Hartsook has applied for a divorce from her husband William T. Hartsoo to whom she was married at Adel, Mercer county, Missouri, November 17, 1872. At the time of the marriage she had $600 worth of personal property which she says her husband at once appropriate to his own use. He squandered it and during the winter of '82 they lived in a structure unfit for human habitation and she says that she was absolutely compelled to come to Kansas and live with a married daughter. She thinks there is no hope of reconciliation between herself and husband and wants the separation made legal. She has three children, Charles, Mollie and Ophia, the custody of whom she asks.
