He moved with his parents to Iowa in 1853. Joined Co. F., 29th Iowa Infantry, Feb. 9, 1864, and served until the close of the Civil war. He was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Squires, in 1870. To this union were born eight children, three boys, Charles M., James S., Carl H., and five girls, Lenna A., Mary J., Bird, Mamie E. and Nettie A. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. V. A. Schofield, assisted by Rev. J. A. Persell. Interment Mapel Grove Cemetery, Bloomington, Nebraska. Additional Comments: James and Ellen Davis and their children lived in Smith County, Kansas, south of Bloomington, Nebraska. Charles M. married Ella Mae Kunze, James S. married Mary Louise Clark, Carl H. married Mayme Ella Whelan, Lenna married A. G. Bryan, Mary J. married Moses F. Buchanan, Birdie married William Herman, Mamie E. married John A. Persell and Nettie A. married Charles H. Heilman.
