Groves lived north of town, died last Sunday night after an illness of nearly five months. His death was due indirectly, is said, to an operation for appendicitis performed some five years ago. His lungs, also, were somewhat affected. Funeral services were held Monday at Bethel Church conducted by Rev. Sniffin of Sylvia, after which the remains were buried in Bethel (Peace Creek) Cemetery. John Groves to this county in 1874 from Carroll county, Mo. He was prominently identified with the early settlement and development of the county and was well know by all the older residents. He was a member of the Bethel church and a man who enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. A brother, Nathan Groves,a brother in law, J. E. Cooper, both of Drexel, Missouri, were here to attend the funeral. (The newspaper probably meant that J. F. Coulter, a brother in law from Drexel, MO, attended the service as there is no brother in law by the name of J. E. Cooper that we can find.)
