Askew, residing 3 miles north east of Macksville, grand-pa Seivert on Saturday December 12, 1891, aged 82 years. Deceased was an examplary and highly respected citizen, and his death being the result of an accident, is greatly lamented by all who knew him. It happened in the following manner : Last Thursday, Mr. Askew assisted Mr. Reed in delivering a lot of fat hogs, which they drove to Macksville. Some time later, on the same day, Mrs Askew daughter of deceased, and Mr. Seivert hitched up a team, then the old gentleman, and his two grand sons aged respectfully 4 and 6 years, drove to Macksville for the purpose of taking Mr. Askew home in a spring wagon. They got there all right, and in the after- noon, accompanied by Mr. Askew, started to drive home. On their journey, Mr. Askew drove and with the oldest boy, occupied the front seat, and Mr. Seivert and the younger boy occupied the back seat. While riding along there was a low place in the road, and when the wheels went down in it, the traces became slack, and on pulling up again it gave a jerk, when the old gentleman fell out backward on his head. Mr. Askew stopped the team at once, and picked up his father-in-law in an unconscious con- dition, but he recovered consciousness in a few minutes, when he put him in the wagon and returned to Macksville, to Westgate's house, where a doctor was summoned at once, and everything was done to resuscitate the old gentleman from the severe nervous shock. He remained there about 24 hours when he was taken home and though all that could be done for him was done, he never recovered, but died about 1 o'clock p.m. last Saturday, but he was conscious most all of the time. Mr. Seivert had been making his permanent home with his daughter for the last five years, and occasionally for the last 8 years. Deceased left 6 children surving him, Mrs. Askew and her sister Mrs. Taylor of Yates Center, Gus Seivert of Nickerson, Kas., Aaron Seivert of Salida, Colo., Robert Seivert of Yates Center and Henry Seivert of St. Johns, Michigan. The funeral took place last Monday when his remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near Macksville, where a large number of sorrowing acquaintances, paid their respects to a departed friend.
