Blue Ridge, Kan., Feb 6, 1883.
Mr. Editor.--It becomes my painful duty to chronicle the death of Mrs. Mary
Martin, January 31st, 1883, who was born in North Carolina in the year 1817, and
moved to Kansas in 1871, and to Belle Plaine township in 1875.  Since the death
of her husband in 1876 she has lived with her youngest son, J.P. Martin.  She
has been confined to the house in her bed since April last.  She has been a
member of the Baptist church for nearly 40 years.  She lived, that in dying it
can be said she leaves not an enemy, but had a universal respect and love or a
large circle of friends.  To her sorrowing children the sympathy of an entire
community is extended.  "W."
