Thomas County in the Midst of a Real Blizzard For Several Hours. One of the worst blizzards that has swept over this part of the country for several years was raging last Thursday and Friday. It first commenced as a nice, warm, gentle rain last Thursday morning but in the afternoon the weather began to get cooler and along about five o'clock, it started to snow and did not let up until early Saturday morning. The snow was accompanied by a hard wind which kept it moving only where there was some kind of shelter and in these places there were huge drifts formed and some of the business men had quite a lenghty job shoveling snow after the storm had subsided before they could get into their places of business. The traffic was stopped on both the Union Pacific and the Rock Island railroads and there were no trains running until last Saturday evening. The Rock Island sent out the wedge plow and also the rotary to clear the track so trains could get through. Several of the old timers here say that it was the worst storm they had seen since the early days. There was no stock suffered, however, as the farmers have plenty of feed and to spare. By Tuesday night the drifts h! ad nearly all disappeared and now we are just wondering when the other blizzard is coming as the weather prophets have promised us one more before the real coming of spring.
