The Colby Tribune, Thomas County, Thursday, January 1, 1873 January 1, 1873
The first battle between the troups and Indians occurred last Monday. The
casualities are very serious; 25 officers and soldiers killed, and a band of 150
Sioux Indians almost exterminated. The Indians were being disarmed when they
commenced firing on the soldiers.

I could find indicated exactly where this battle took place.)
