AN AGED LADY IN DEATH Had Lived in Thomas County for Thirty Years Friends of many years crowded the Evangelical church Monday afternoon for the funeral services of Mrs. John Benda. Full of years, this good woman had come unagraid to the end with the satisfaction of a life well lived, of many deeds accomplished, and surrounded by the love of her children and many friends. The service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Groves, assisted by Rev. L. R. Templin. Interment was in Beulah cemetery beside her husband who died in 1931. Anna Pollack [sic.] was born at Marisch Neustadt, Austria on January 22, 1861. When a young woman she came to America and arrived at Columbia, Nebr., September 29, 1883. On November 3rd, of that year she became the bride of John Benda, an acquaintance from her old home town who had come to America five years before. Mr. and Mrs. Benda became the parents of nine children all of whom are still living and were privileged to be present to share together the sorrow that comes to them in the passing of their mother, and to find a measure of comfort in the memory or the splendid life she lived. The husband and father passed away on January 27, 1931. In 1905 the family moved to a farm near Halford, where they resided until the failing health of the father forced them to retire from the farm and move to Colby where Mrs. Benda has continued to reside until her death. Those who remain to mourn her passing are the children: Mrs. Anna Neal of Dolores, Colo., Oscar Benda of Halford, Mrs. Ella Parrott of Flagler, Colo., Mrs. Minnie Howard of Boulder, Colo., Mrs. Theresia Kleeman of Elbert, Colo., Robert Benda of Achilles, Mrs. Marie Anderson of Halford, Mrs. Sophia McKinney and Mrs. Rose Ryan, of Colby; thirty-three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Marie Siefert of Marisch Neustadt, Czechoslovakia; and a host of friends. Grandma Benda will be remembered by many for the service she has rendered and the kindness she has shown to them. In her younger days and in spite of the demands of her own family she found time and strength to be a nurse in the homes of friends and neighbors when there was time of such need. She lived her life in a trust in her God, simply and sincerely seeking to follow the precept of the Master's Golden Rule. As long as her health continued she was faithfully lovable [?] to her church. Following some years of declining health she came to her passing from this life on July 27, 1934, trusting in death as she had trusted in the life that God would take care of her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ =================================================== Contributed for use by the USGenWeb Archive Project (http://www.usgenweb.org) and by the KSGenWeb Archive Project USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
