She was born Jan. 1, 1892 in Nebraska and died Aug. 19 at Citizens Medical Center. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established to benefit the Thomas County Historical Society. Contributions may be left at Thomas County Historical Society. Obituary BERTHA BELLE BENDA Bertha Belle Benda, daughter of Samuel Henderson and Eva Blazer Hernderson, was born at Brock, Neb. on Jan. 1, 1892. She died Aug. 18, 1983 at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. At an early age she moved with her family to Graham County, Kan., where she received her formal education. She later attended business college in Salina. On Jan. 21, 1914, she married Oscar G. Benda. The couple had for children. They moveed to the family farm east of Halford in 1919 and retired to Colby in 1946. She entered Thomas County Care Center in 1973, where she remained until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; a son, Russell; a daughter, LaVerne; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, August 22 at Harrison Chapel, the Rev. Claude Burlew officiated. Pallbearers were Marvin McKinney, Aeden Wallace, Dick Kraft, Ron Pfenninger, John Benda and Mike Benda. Music was provided by Patty Ziegelmeier, organist, and Lynn Whitham and Rue Sowers, singers.
