Gustafson June 18, 2002 *********************************************************************** Colby Free Press, November 29, 1956 BENDA, HELEN (TORREZ) Dedicated Life Ends Early With the death of Helen Benda, R. N., wife of Dale Benda, Colby, in St. Thomas hospital Nov. 9, there came to an earthly end at 35 years a dedicated life. Funeral services were conducted from St. Ignatius church, Kanopolis, by her brother, Father Basil Torrez, Nov. 12. Interment was in the cemetery at Kanopolis, the community of her birth and early life. Following her graduation from the St. Joseph school of nursing, Concordia, she served for a time at St. Thomas hospital in Colby. From the early part of 1948 until October 0f 1952 she followed her profession at Falls City, Neb., until she went to Ellsworth, where she nursed until her marriage. For the following fours years she was with the hospital in Colby, continuing in service until a short time before the end of her life.
