BENDA Funeral services for Madine E. Benda were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Gem. The Rev. Irvin Bradshaw, Hutchinson, officiated. Music was provided by Mrs. Pat Ziegelmeier, organist, and Lois Mallory, Rue Sowers and Marie Sowers, soloists. Pall bearers were Donald Saddler, Charles Moos, Gary Gawith, Wesley Benda, Arden Wallae, and Cyril Saddler. Mrs. Benda was born Aug. 9, 1921 west of Menlo, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Duffey. She went to school in Menlo, then attended Central Business College, Denver. After college she returned to Colby and worked as bookkeeper for Cline Curtiss. On Jan. 20, 1946 she married LeRoy Benda at her parents home. They had two children. Mrs. Benda, a member of the First Baptist Church, Gem, where she served as a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher, Sunday school secretary and a member of the ABW. Her parents and a sister, Winifred Smith, preceeded her in death. Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters, Christine Kraft, Concordia, and Linda Pfennsinger, Nekoma; seven sisters, Eileen Murphy, Colby; Nina Brandt, Brownsburg, Ind.; Juanita Kling, Goodland; Bernita Gawith, Oberlin; Freda Wayland, Norton; Loreda Wagner, Great Bend, and Leona Steiger, Menlo; three brothers, Chester, Harold, and Cleo, all of Menlo; and four grandchildren.
