Jones. Last Friday evening at Five o'clock John H. JONES passed away at his home in Colby. He had been failing for several months having received a stroke of paralysis a year ago last fall and Friday morning a thrid stroke came and he lived but a short time. John H. Jones, or Florida, as he was familiarily known in the country, perhaps won more friends in his short life-time in this community than any other man. He came to Colby three year ago frm Kentucky and for a time run the old Pratt Bros. Livery Barn. He was a Democrat of the old school, he was a true friend, generous, kind and good neighbor. His kindly smile and good deeds will long be remembered and missed by his friends in Thomas County. he was buried Sunday in the Beaulah Cemtery. The death of Mr. John Henderson Jones came as a surprise to his many friends and neighbors. He had been in poor health since the early days of November a year ago, but he was still able to be about. When the stroke came which resulted in his death he was sitting at the dinner table eating and talking. He seemed about as well as usual when without a moments warning he leaned over against the wall. This was on Wednesay, Dec. 5th, and on Friday afternoon about 3:30 he passed away. He was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, June 16, 1849, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albion Jones. Mr. Jones was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. BURTON of Monteello, Kentucky in 1871. Mr. and Mrs. Jones made thier home in Wayne County, Kentucky, until 1881 when the moved to Cumberland, Tenn., and later to Harriman Tennessee. In 1911 they moved to Gainesville, Florida where they remained about four years. Two years last May Mr. Jones came to Colby, Kansas, his wife following later. Being of a friendly sociable nature he was not long in getting aquainted with the people of Colby. He loved to talk with his friends about the topics of the day, experiences of his young manhood, and especially of the south-land where he spent the greater part of his life. He will be missed by his many friends and neighbors. When in his nineteenth year, he settled the great question of his relationship to God. He united with Christian church, and continued in this connection until the end of his life. When he came to Colby, he placed his membership with the local church. For more than a year Mr. Jones has been a sufferer. He seemed to take his affliction patiently, as something in the order of divine providence. At least he was not heard to complain. It was on the 3rd of November 1916 that he received a paralytic stroke which confined him to his bed for some time. He rallied however, sufficiently to walk about with the aid of a crutch and even to ride about town occasionally. He was taken suddenly worse on Wednesday last, and on Friday P.M. at 3:30 the release came. He leaves two brothers and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Jones of Beaumont, Texas, Shelby T. Jones of Mill Springs, Kentucky, Mrs. Elizabth COFFEE of Danville, Kentucky, Mrs. C. FISHER of Beaumont, Texas, Miss Hattie JONES, Lakeland, Kentucky and Louis R. of New Orleans, La. None of the relatives were able to be present. The community extends it heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Jones in her recent bereavement.
