Last Saturday Ex-commissioner W.H. SMITH received a letter from Denver stating that his son Chas. had met with an accident and his recovery is doubtful. Sunday a telegram came telling Mr. and Mrs. Smith to come at once. They left on Sunday night's vestibule, but before their arrival at Denver the boy was dead. Charles had been in Denver for sometime, and at the time of the accident working on a derrick in one of the principle streets when the structure was struck by a cable car and he was crushed between the timbers. The veridt of the coroners' jury is as follows: "That the said Charles Smith came to his death in the city of Denver, at the Arapahoe County Hospital, on the 11th day of May, 1891, about 3 a.m., from the effects on the 6th day of May, 1891, by being crushed between a fence post and a derrick struck by grip car No. 21 of the Denver City Cable Company, and we are of the opinion that the said death is from the want of proper care on the part of the gripamn of said car." Mr. Smith arrived with the remains this morning, and they were at once conveyed to his home ten miles south of Colby. The intermenet took place this morning at 10 o'clock in the cemetery at Thurford. Mr. Smith and family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
