Stetter TimeTraveler303 March 27, 2008, 1:17 am The Winona CLIPPER, Winona, Logan County, Kansas; May 10, 1888 On Monday evening, April 30th, Mr. VENARD's little boy, Frank, aged about six years, was bitten on the top of the foot by a rattlesnake, and his father, being with him at the time, picked him up instantly and begun extracting the poison from the wound and ran to the house with him, only a few rods away, and killed a chicken and bound the warm flesh to his foot and tried nearly all remedies known but he grew worse rapidly. Doctor HAYES was sent for and when he arrived the child's leg was swollen clear to its body and the skin broken in several places. All was done that was possible but without avail and on Tuesday morning about ten o'clock death ended his sufferings. A peculiar feature connected with the case is that the snake never rattled or made a sound as is usual. The child was buried on Wednesday on the claim, funeral services being conducted by Rev. Parmenis SMITH.--Sharon Springs Leader. ________________ Source: The Winona CLIPPER, Winona, Logan County, Kansas; Thursday, May 10, 1888; Volume 1 No. 24, page 1 column 2.
