Greenleaf Sentinel, Greenleaf, Kansas
Gladys Padgett Bitzer, 93, Washington, died April 6, 1989, at Washington County
 Hospital.
She was born Aug. 2, 1895, at Greenleaf, the daughter of John Manson and Martha
McGinnis Padgett.
She married Paul Rexford Neal, M.D. in 1918. He died in 1929. She married Donald
A. Bitzer, M.D. in 1967. He died in 1985.
Mrs. Bitzer graduated from Glasco High School and attended Bethany College in
Lindsborg. She had worked at the Citizens National Bank , Greenleaf. (After Paul
Rexford Neal died, she lived with her father in Greenleaf, worked at the bank,
and kept house for him as he was a widower. He helped raise her two children,
acting like a father and grandfather for them.) She was a life member and had
been a founder of the American Legion Auxiliary, Greenleaf. She belonged to
Prescilla and WPM Club in Washington.
Survivers include a daughter, Pauline Neal Thompson. New Albany, Indiana; a
sister Pearl Padgett Rafn, Baker, Oregon; a daughter-in-law, Willa Jean Coffman
Neal, Topeka; five grand children and seven great-grandchildren. 
She was proceded in death by a son, Dr. John Paul Neal, Topeka.
Services were Wednesday, April 19, at United Methodist Church in Washington with
Rev. Mr. Richard Krenz  officiating.
Casket bearers were Paul William Neal, Richard Neal Thompson, Robert Parker
Scherer, Gary Watson Padgett,  Earl Calvin Padgett, Jr., and John Derby
Thompson. Memorial contributions may be made to the United  Methodist Church or
Washington County Hospital. Ward Funeral Home, Washington was in charge of 
arrangements."
