BOLD ROBBERY OF THE BARNES STATE BANK
CASHIER BROWN KILLED IN DEFENSE OF THE FUNDS (includes a picture of Robert P Brown)
There is a two column article on the robbery - the following works as an
obituary for Mr. Brown
"It is too bad that a man like R P Brown would have to give up his life in a
conflict with a man who was not worth a cent to himself or to the world or to
any human being. Mr Brown was highly respected by everyone who knew him -
a quiet, unassuming Christian gentleman and will be greatly missed in the
community. He was born August 19, 1871 and was 41 years, 7 months and 10 days
old. Funeral services were conducted at the M E church at Barnes Tuesday at 21
p.m. and the remains were interred at the Washington cemetery.
	Mr Brown leaves a wife and three children, brothers and sisters and a host of
friends. His brother, Charles, formerly ran a produce house in Greenleaf. The
deceased leaves insurance to the value of $10,000 to his family.
	The coroner's jury was in session three days. It decided that Mr BROWN came to
his death in the hands of the bandit. The robber came to his death by a bullet
fired by some person unknown to the jury.(the robber didn't have any
identification on his body, he was represented as a fellow seen at Wymore,
Nebraska or a "joint keeper" and gambler who lived at Marysville years ago -
"The Murder" had his picture on page 1, too)
