Another old soldier has answered to the last roll call. Mr. John COONEY whom we mentioned in last week's Index as being seriously ill, passed over the river, August 16, 1904, after a sickness of several weeks. Mr. Cooney was one of the old residents of Palmer having come here when the town was new. He has made his home here since that time and leaves many relatives and old friends. Mr. John Cooney was born in Hunting county, Penn., April 23, 1826, and died at Palmer August 16, 1904. In the early part of his life he moved to Iowa and in 1867 he moved from North Liberty, Ia., to Kansas. Was twice united in marriage, his first wife, being Miss Mary ROBINSON, to which union there were born eight children, seven of whom survive him, the only one living here, however, John Cooney, Jr., south of Palmer. He was married at second time to Mrs. S.M. HILEMAN on March 10, 1870. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the M.E. church conducted by Rev. Weidenheimer and the Grand Army of Linn of which he was a member. The remains were laid to rest in Peach Creek cemetery where lie nearly a score of the nation's brave defenders.--Palmer Index. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/washington/obits/c/cooney1091ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
