Dean. Emma Jane WARTENBERGER was born February 4, 1848, in Stark Co., Ohio. Being 62 years, eight months and twenty-eight days of age at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to William DEAN on the 26th day of September 1866 in St. Joseph, Mo. To this union were born six children, three of whom survive her. Henry Oliver Dean, William Dean, Jr., of Butler, Okla., and Elza Dean of Greenleaf, Kan. In 1870 she with her husband and family moved from Missouri to Washington Co., Kans., on their farm where they lived for forty years, until the time of her death which occurred Nov. 1, 1910. She united with the Methodist church in her childhood days living a devoted and Christian life and strove to raise her family up in the fear of the Lord as she had been raised by a Christian father and mother who have preceded here to the better land. Her husband and three children, together with her two brothers, F.A. Wertenberger of Greenleaf, Kansas and Dr. Wm. Wertenberger and Sarah KIMZ of Waterville, together share in the effects of the bereavement. The long absence will sweeten and strengthen the influence of her life. Memories of her are a most precious heritage. The funeral was held at the house Nov. 3rd. Rev. Fowler of Barnes conducted the funeral.
