FREEMAN, of Lowe township, who has lived in this locality for the last twenty-one years, was laid to rest last Sunday in the cemetery by the side of his wife who passed on before him. Uncle Freeman was born Aug. 8th, 1822, in the state of New York, where he was raised to manhood, after which he resided a short time in the state of Wisconsin, where he married Miss Hannah LOWE. In the year 1847 he moved to Iowa, locating in said state during its pioneer history. At the outbreak of the late civil war he enlisted in the service of the U.S. and served three years in the 9th Iowa Ref. of Inft. Vol. He was wounded while engaged in the battle of Pea Ridge. He moved from Iowa to Kansas and located in this neighborhood in the year 1876 where he lived until the day of his death. He has ever been a staunch Republican, a kind neighbor and has won the respect of all who knew him. He lived beyond the limit of three score and ten, leaves but three children of seven! to mourn his death. He was totally blind the two last years of his life and like many generous, kind hearted men he has died in poverty. His brightest hope of happiness in this life or in the life to come was resting on the basis of Freemasonry. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/washington/obits/f/freeman1484gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
