Carrol GROOM, of Palmer, died Saturday night of typhoid fever after a lingering
illness. He belonged to the company of soldiers who enlisted from Washington and
Clay counties and was home on his furlough. He is the same one who, with Chas.
BEST, of Clifton, fell from the state house steps and was badly hurt while the
boys were yet in Topeka. He recovered from the effects of the fall, but
contracted the fever down at Camp Alger in Va.
