His death has cast a gloom over the entire community and is a great shock to the grieving parents, his relatives and many friends. His young life is ended but he will long be remembered by all who knew him as an exceptionally bright young gentleman, always kind and true, upright and honest, very industrious and of no bad habits. His life, while very short, can well be emulated by any young man. He was the only son of Dr and Mrs. MAINTZ whose hopes and ambitions were all centered on him and he was a great help to them about the post office, drug store and home. Prince had just been elected Secretary of the Senior High School Class at Greenleaf and was a member and Secretary of the Young Peoples Christian Endeavor of the M E Church at Linn, where he will be greatly missed. His funeral was conducted by Revs. THORP of Greenleaf, Wassel and Grosse of Linn. Besides relatives from Missouri, a very large concourse of people gathered Sunday afternoon from the surrounding community, Greenleaf, Washington, Palmer, Clifton and elsewhere to pay their last respects to one all loved and respected highly. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, the entire casket being covered with flowers from his friends. The entire community mourns with the bereaved parents. HORRIBLE ACCIDENT A very sad accident occurred Friday afternoon between here and Linn in which Prince MAINTZ lost his life. As near as we can learn, it happened this way. The westbound passenger train was late and some of the boys who attend the Greenleaf High School concluded to walk to heir homes at Linn, stating that they would beat the passenger. The other students waited for the train. When the train overtook the boys who were walking the students in the coach went to the back platform to wave to those on foot. Prince Maintz was on the steps of the platform and dropped his hat. In grabbing his hat, he lost his balance and fell, however he continued to hang to a rod with one hand for some distance, but was finally jerked loose. His head struck a tie and his body bounded over into the weeds at the side of the rod. The boys on foot rant to him and found him unconscious, although breathing. The train backed up and go him and he was taken to his home at Linn. After reaching home, he continued to breathe and his pulse was eighty, but his skull was crushed and he died without regaining consciousness. (there is more to the article but it is primarily the same information about his family that appears in the obituary) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/washington/obits/m/maintz1408ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 3.3 Kb
