Mary R. Smith.

Mary R. SMITH was born in Vermont in 1882 and moved with her parents to the
state of New York three years later. Here at the age of 17 years she was united
in marriage to Joseph JESSEPH. To this union one child was born, Henry E.
Jesseph, who now resides in Sumner County, this state. Her first husband having
died, she was married a second time, to Peter SMITH, who died in 1873. To this
union were born two children, Edmond R. Smith who died in 1878, and Mr. R.D.
TIPPIN of this city, with whom Grandma Smith had made her home for over thirty
years. Being nearly 84 years of age she nevertheless enjoyed good health, except
for a sense of hearing which was almost gone, until a few days before her death,
which ocurred at her daughter's, Mrs. Tippin's, Friday morning, Feb. 9th.
Mrs. Smith had been a life long Christian, having been a member of the Methodist
church for many years. She was a devout student of God's word, having read the
entire Bible through more than nine times. Being almost wholly deprived of
hearing, she found great comfort in the study of the Word.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church Sunday at 2 p.m., conducted by her
pastor, Dr. Leeper, where a goodly number of friends and relativds had gathered
to pay the last tribute of respect to her mortal remains. Mr. Henry Jeeseph and
wife of Sumner County, her only son and companion were in attendance.
