Harry Ulch Killed.

H.B. ULCH, formerly of this place was killed Sept. 18, 1909, by Passenger No. 15
three miles west of Barnes. The remains were laid to rest in Cemetery No. 41. On
his person was found these words on a slip of paper, "Where ever I am found,
bury me there, send news to the Republican-Register."
The above communication came to us Wednesday from a stranger. It was written on
a postal card and conveyed no other information. Whether the death was suicidal
or accidental we can only conjecture. From the fact that he had the note
mentioned in is pocket, we infer that he committed suicide, if the report is
correct. Harry was a son of Simon P. ULCH, who used to live north of town. He
was unfortunate mentally and the smaller boys at school used to make life
miserable for him by stealing his hat, his books, his dinner and his play things
and pelting him with mud clods and other missiles. While teaching in the city
schools here we have rescued him from his tormentors hundreds of times, which
may account for his wanting us notified of his death.
He left here with his parents about five years ago for Missouri. Three years
later he came back claiming to have been married to an Indian girl who died. He
must have been about 24 years of age.
Poor Harry! Life had no hope, no future, for him and if the report of his death
is true we are not at all surprised at this tragic ending. May his body rest in
peace and his spirit enjoy a happiness denied to him while here in the flesh.
