Last Saturday night a number of the friends of Joseph and Hettie RAPLEE met at their home in this city and gave them a very nice surprise. About twenty persons were present and left ten dollars in gold, about two dollars in silver, a silver thimble and a fine quilt. Rev. BOWMAN with appropriate remarks presented them and Mrs. RAPLEE returned thanks for the favor and kindness, after which Rev. HAGEMAN led in prayer then the song, "Blest be the Tie that Binds" was sung. Mr. RAPLEE is 70 years of age, his wife 66. They were married 50 years ago March 28 in New York. They have had three children, two dead and the only son is a business man of this city. About three years ago Mr. RAPLEE suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he has never recovered and is a helpless as a child.
