E. Barrett, in Everett township, on the 1st day of July 1904, aged 87 years 6 months 22 days. The deceased was born in the village of Dommer Hampshire England, on the 9th day of Dec. 1817. He was united in marriage to Mrs. M. Miller, in the city of London in 1857, and one year later, accompanied by his wife and her two sons he sailed for America, and settled in McKeen Co. Penn. where they resided for thirteen years. Selling his farm there he with his family said for England landing there in the winter of 1879. He lived in London and Winchester until the the following summer, when he and his family once more took passage for America landing in New York City, from there they went to Jacksonville, Ill. where he became acquainted with several parties interested in Yates Center and was induced to make Woodson Co. his home. Grandpa Barrett, as he was known, was a member of the Church of England. He was a kind father, a good neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him, an interesting sermon was preached by Rev. Clark of the U. B. church and the remains were laid to rest beside his wife in Cedar Vale cemetery at Neosho Falls. Five sons mourn the loss of a kind father namely Louis and Horace Miller, Geo. Barrett of Spokane, Washington, W. H. Barrett of Kansas City, Mo. and J. E. of Woodson Co. Kansas.
