Buck, Formerly Was Editor of Fairview Enterprise Charles A. Buck, former editor of Fairview Enterprise, died at Panora, Iowa, Sept. 18. He was 50 years old and leaves a mother and one son, Francis. Mr. Buck came to Fairview in May of 1914 and re-established the Enterprise. He built a building for his paper and still owns the building. A year ago he sold his paper to North Worrell and went to anotehr Kansas town and a short time ago went to Iowa. Grief over the death of his wife, who died five years ago, brought on nervous prostration and insomnia and eventually caused his death. The Toronto Republican Thur Sep 21, 1916 pg 1 OBITUARY Chas. A. Buck was born in St. Louis, Mo., November 27, 1866, and died at Panora, Iowa, September 8, 1916. He spent the summer months resting up and looking for a location, and thought he had found an ideal town for his future home at Panora. He had suffered for some time with nervous prostration and insomnia; and he had been depressed at times grieving over the loss of his wife which occurred five years ago. He leaves to mourn his untimely death an only son, Francis H. Buck, his widowed mother and two sisters. He lived in Toronto for several years and assisted his mother in publishing the Republican until he was appointed post- master, holding that office for six or seven years, when he resigned on account of the confinement and since then he has been connected with various newspaper enterprises in Ohio, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. The body was shipped to Toronto, arriving on Wednesday afternoon. The funeral was held at the M. E. church in charge of Rev. Fesler. The Toronto Republican Thur Sep 21, 1916 pg 4 Chas. A. Buck Charley Buck, foreman and editor of the Republican back in the 90's, went away more than a dozen years ago. He was brought back last Wednesday. In the sleep that knows no earthly waking, and was laid beside the wife of his youth in the old town's hillside God's acre, and where his father was laid away more than a quarter of a century ago. -------- It was in the late 80's that the Buck family took charge of the Republican. Tall, very slender intellectual, with a taste for argument, he was rather striking in appearance and a most interesting conversationalist At typesetting he was an expert, he and his brother Ed Buck, at one time being regarded as two of the swiftest compositors west of St. Louis. He was almost painfully exact in everything being in its place, in his shop, from quoin key to his old cob pipe. He could go into his shop in the darkness of the night and lay his hand on anything he wanted. He was lenient in collecting subscription, but if a subscriber promised to pay on a certain day and failed to so so, his confidence in that man's word on anything was gone forever. The Toronto Republican Thur Sep 14, 1916 pg 1 C. A. Buck, once editor of the Toronto Republican and for several years postmaster here, died Friday at Panora, Ia., where he owned the Guthrie County Vidette. His body was brought back to Toronto yesterday afternoon. A short funeral service was held by Rev. Fesler at the Methodist church, after which he was buried by the side of his first wife, who was Miss Ida Jones. His mother, who was hee visiting, went to Iowa tp return with his body. His sister, Mrs. Laura Snow of Kansas City, came here with her. J. G. Beardsley, of Iola, who learned of the printer's trade under Mr. Buck, came on the same train to attend the funeral.
