Mr. Lauber was one of the oldest and most influential citizens of this county, a man universally loved and respected by all. The funeral services will be held, tomorrow, Friday, January 15th, at 1:00 o'clock from the German Evangelical church. A complete obituary will be published next week. The Yates Center News Fri Jan 22, 1909 pg 4 LAUBER August Lauber was born in Lippe, Detmold, Germany June 30, 1827. In the year 1854 he left the Fatherland and came to Freeport, Ill., and in 1857 to Kansas, settling on a piece of land near the present cite of the town of Yates Center, where he engaged in farming and stock raising. On this farm he resided until the end of his earthly life. Being one of the oldest settlers he was well known in the community and he was highly respected as an upright man. On November 23, 1860 Mr. Lauber was married to Miss Louisa Stockebrand. This union was blessed with sice children: William, August, Herman, Henry, John and Mrs. Mathilda Ropp, all of these living in this neighborhood. The mother entered into her eternal rest in 1906 and father Lauber followed her on January 13, 1909, after a prolonged season of impaired health, aged 81 years 6 months and 13 days. The deceased was converted to God in 1867 under the labors of the pioneer preachers of the Evangelical church, of which he was a faithful member to his end. He served the church in various official capacities, for 35 years in sucession as S. S. superintendent. In the death of Mr. Lauber the church loses an influential member and liberal supporter and the community a model citizen. The funeral services were conducted in the Evangelical church by the pastor, A. Brunner, who chose for the funeral the text the words: "A prince and mighty man is fallen in Israel."--2 Sam: 3:38. A large number of friends followed the remains, which were laid to rest in the Yates Center cemetery.
