Could the gates be set ajar and we could see the opening in that spirit world where our loved ones have gone, our selfish grief would be changed to gladness. Mrs. Louisa Lauber, (Nee Stockebrand) was born July 5, 1830 at Ditmold, Germany, and departed this life in peace, at her home in Yates Center, Kansas, Oct. 19, 1906, aged 76 years, 3 months and 14 days. In 1859 she immigrated to this country and became a resident of Woodson county. Nov 23, 1860, she entered into marriage relation with her now sorrowing husband, August Lauber. Five sons and one daughter were born to them, who are all living in Woodson county and were present at the funeral of their dear mother. Mrs. Lauber was converted in 1867, realizing a definite change of heart and her sins forgiven. She then became one of the charter members of the church of the Evangelical association of our city. She loved God, his cause and his people. Her home was always open for the preachers of the Gospel, who in pioneer days often preached in the home. She was faithful in all things. Her memory is blessed "she did what she could." Funeral services were conducted by the pastor, W. F. Wolfhausen, Sunday afternoon, at the Evangelist church. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended her remains to the Graceland cemetery, where they were laid away to await the resurection morn.
