She was married to James H. Allen March 12, 1857. To this union six children were born. Two girls died in middle life. One daughter and one son are left to mourn her loss. Mrs. Alen was married Dec 17, 1885, to Abram Smith, who preceded her to the Home Beyond by twenty years. Grandma Smith, as she was affectionately known, came to Kansas in 1872, to Woodson county in 1879 and to Yates Center in 1884, living her ever since. In youth she was converted and united with the Christian church, living in the faith until the last. Grandma Smith was a pioneer, coming to Kansas when the country was new; no school for her children and no church for worship, yet the sturdy pioneer overcame all this. Those left to mourn her going are a daughter, Clemma, who has cared for her for 16 years, a son, Joseph Franklin, of Cimarron, 3 grand- children, 12 great grand children, a sister, of Los Angeles California, and many dear friends. The funeral was conducted at the home at 3:30 Monday afternoon by the Rev. C. O. Banta, pastor of the Christian church of Yates Center. Interment was in the beautiful city cemetery.
