P. SCHAAF & CO. Dealers in Drugs, Chemicals, Toilet Articles, Cigars, Tobacco, Paints, Oils and Glass. A Model Pharmacy, Up to Date in All Departments. Under Enterprising Management. Humanity is heir to so many ills even in a country noted for its healthfulness that the drug business is an important feature of a city's commercial life. This branch of trade is represented in Toronto by the firm of Schaaf & Co. in a manner that is above adverse criticism, and their establishment is in keeping with the stores of the same kind in the larger cities. The salesroom occupied is 22x60 feet in size, and the fittings as well as the arrangement of the goods handled give a metropolitan appearance to the establishment. The stock embraces a full line of pure and fresh drugs, chemicals and reliable proprietary remedies, also toilet articles, perfumes, stationery, cigars and tobacco. An extensive line of paints, oils and glass is also included in the varied assortment of goods usually found in a store of this kind. The prescription department is in charge of the junior member of the firm, Mr. Finnley, who is a registered pharmacist of experience and skill. The careful compounding of prescriptions with fresh and pure drugs is a specialty of the business. J. P. Schaaf is a native of illinois, but having lived in Kansas since the age of two years may justly lay claim to being a true son of the Sunflower state. He was reared and educated in Burlington, Coffey county, and prior to embarking in the drug business in this city in 1895 was one of the successful farmers of that county. In politics he is a democrat, but allows the active work of his party to devolve upon those whose business duties are less confining than his. He is a Woodman, and in fraternal, business and social circles is classed among the representative citizens of this community. Thos. Finley was born in Indiana, and came to Wilson county, Kansas, in 1868. Like his business partner he was reared and educated here. He learned the drug business in the store of F. M. Robertson, in Coffyville, with whom he remained until engaging in business for himself. He is a republican and is a member of the city council of this municipality. He is a Woodman and a citizen of of standing and prominence. Since the store was established by these two gentlemen in 1895 they have built up an extensive trade and gained a deserved prestige by enterprising and honorable business methods.
