Undivided Profits, $1,200. W. P. Dickerson, Cashier. The commercial standing and prosperity of a city may be judged by its banking institutions and if theses "hearts of business life" are in a flourishing and healthy condition a city is bound to thrive. That Toronto is a business center of importance in this section of the state is a conceded fact, and its commercial prestige may be ascribed in a large measure to the Toronto Bank which since its organization in 1892 has proved an important factor in the advancement of the city. A general banking business is conducted, deposits received, exchange bought and sold, and prompt attention is given to collections. No patron of the bank has ever been refused a loan on approved banking security, and the individual financial standing of the owners is such as to insure the fullest confidence of the many depositors. The correspondents of this institution are the National Bank of Commerce Kansas City, and the Chase National Bank, of New York. The home of the bank is a modern brick structure which was built for this purpose. The arrangement of the counting room is in accordance with the ideas of metropolitan banks. In addition to fire and burglar proof steel vault and safe with time lock, the fund and valuable documents are further protected against loss by a policy in the Bankers Mutual Insurance Company. W. P. Dickerson, the cashier on whom devolves the business management of the bank is a native of Ohio and came to Kansas in 1870 being at that time ten years of age. The family located and remained in Allen county until the spring of 1876 when they removed to Toronto. Mr. Dickerson supplementd his common school education with a course at the State University at Lawrence and after leaving that institution taught school for six years. He owned and published the Toronto Register for two years and made that journal a valued factor in local newspaper circles. He is a republican in politics and as such has filled the office of the district court for two terms. He is a Mason and his life long carrer in this state has been such as to entitle im to the respect and confidence so universally accorded him by his fellow men. Of C. H. Starrett and N. V. Moore the other owners of the bank, the former is a pioneer business man of this city who is extensively mentioned elsewhere in this issue and N. V. Moore is a clergyman whose standing is above criticism.
