Its Products are Unsurpassed. A Manufacturing Enterprise Under Competent Management Which has Added Materially to the Commercial Importance of this City. W. P. Dickerson, Proprietor. No commerial or manufacturing enterprise tends to build up a city as a business center more than a well managed modern flouring mill. The farmer here finds a ready market for his grain at the prevailing market prices and receives in exchange the manufactured products or cash as he desires. As a natural result he does his trading at a town having a first class mill if possible, and the people of a community thus favored should patronize home industries by using the ontput of concerns which add to the general prosperity of the city. The writer unhesitatingly states that of the several mills in Woodson county, none are better equipped than the Toronto Roller Mills, and this assertion is made after careful observation, and a comprehensive knowledge of milling machinery. The mill proper is a two story and basement frame structure, iron-clad, and its ground dimensions are 28x60 feet. An engine room 14x24 and a storage house 24x60 are the additional buildings required to handle the business. The Todd & Stanley system is the main equipment, and the other milling machinery is of an equally high standard. The 35hp. engine and steel tube boiler are also models of their kind. The flouring capacity is 50 barrels per day and the other grinding capacity 400 sacks or two car loads daily. The brands of flour for which this mill has become popularly known are the Gem Patent, Pride of Toronto and Wild Rose, all of them ranking with the best in their respective grades. The output of the mill also includes corn meal, feed, bran etc., and these latter products find a large home consumpton amond the extensive stock feeders of this section. Grain of all kinds is handled and the shipping of these products is an important feature of the enterprise. This mill was erected in the winter of 1894-95 by its present owner, W. P. Dickerson, and is in charge of T. J. Dickerson as business manager. Its success from the start may be ascribed to its modern equipment, the high standard of its output, and the correct business methods which have characterized its management.
