The cause of his death was heart trouble, and he had been ill for a month, although not seriously ill until a few days before his death. He was born in Brensbach, Germany on Feb 27, 1832, and came to the United States in 1855, when 23 years of age, first settling in St Louis. In 1856 he removed to Westport (now Kansas City) and was one of the pioneer settlers of that city. Two years ago he visited with his son here, and made a number of friends among our residents, who regret to hear of this good old man’s demise. Besides his son, W H Becker, of this city, he leaves three other sons and one daughter. An interesting incident in his life was the raid made on his shoe shop in Westport by Quantrell and his band at the time they were enroute to Lawrence, Kansas, to plunder and sack that town.” (Odessa Record: 12-05-1913) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/wyandotte/obits/b/becker1951gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
