CLAIM FOR PENSION Original O.B. Patteson, Applicant, Captain Co., B 13th Reg't, Ky Vol Infantry Enlisted September 23, 1861. Discharged Jan. 12, 1865. Filed By Gilbert Moyers, Atty., Washington, D.C. DECLARATION FOR ORIGINAL INVALID PENSION To Be Executed Before a Court of Records or Some Officer Thereof Having Custody of Its Seal. State of Kentucky Russell County, On this 20th day of October, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, personally appeared before me, A.C. Wells,Clk. of the Russell County Court, a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid, O.B. Patteson aged 46 years, a resident of the County of Adair, State of Kentucky,, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical person who enrolled on the 23rd day of September, 1861, in Company B of the 13th Regiment of Ky Vol Inf commanded by Col. Hobson and was honorably discharged at Louisville, Ky on the 12th day of January, 1865; that his personal description is as follows: Age, 46 years; height 5 feet 11 3/4 inches; complexion, fair; hair, light; eyes, blue. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and in the line of his duty at Shiloh, in the State of Tennessee on or about the 15th day of April, 1862, he got sick of pneumonia fever, and was treated by Dr. Taylor Cooper and Moore, and about 15th day of August, 1862 at Battle Creek, Tennessee, became afflicted with rheumatism, and not being able for service came home to work what little he could in recruiting service, and remained at home til about January 1863, except about October 1862 went to Louisville and stayed four days and was commissioned as Captain. Said disease of fever settled in his back, hips, and knees and said disease of rheumatism also settled in his back, hips, and knees; also he has never been employed in the military or navy since otherwise than that stated. That since leaving the service this applicant has resided in the County of Adair in the State of Kentucky, and his occupation has been that of a farmer. That prior to his entry into the service above named he was a man of good, sound, physical health, being when enrolled as a farmer. That he is now wholly disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor by reason of his injuries, above described, received in the service of the United States; and he therefore makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the invalid pension roll of the United States. He hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, Gilbert Moyers of Washington City, his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim. Wells, Clerk (Signature) Russell County Court (Official Character) State of Kentucky County of Russell In obedience to an order from the Pension Department requiring me to state my place of residence for five years preceding my Enlistment in Co., B. 13th Ky Infantry, I hereby state under oath, that for five years previous to my Enlistment, I lived in the States of California, Missouri, and Kentucky, and was in California in Yuba County, Camptonville, in the year 1856 up to November of that year, and then came to Kentucky, Columbia P.O. and remained about one year and then went to Carroll County Mo., Carrolton P.O., and remained about two years, and in 1859 returned to Adair Co. Ky where I was raised about two miles South West of Columbia, Ky and remained there until I enlisted in 1861 as stated in my application. After I was discharged I first lived 18 miles North East of Columbia Ky in Adair Co. for about two years, and then moved about two miles East of Columbia and lived about one year and then moved to Columbia Ky and lived about two years and then moved south East of Columbia about four miles and lived seven years, and the balance of the time and up to the present about 8 miles East of Columbia Ky. At Shiloh Tennessee, about the 15th day of April 1862, I got sick of pneumonia fever and was treated by Dr. Taylor Cooper and Dr. C.D. Moore, and at Battle Creek Tennessee became afflicted with rheumatism and not being able for service came home to work at the recruiting business, and remained at home til about January 1863 except about October 1862 went to Louisville and stayed a few days, and was commissioned as Captain. Said disease of fever fell into and settled in my back, hips and knees and said disease of rheumatism also settled in my back hips and knees. Treated by Dr. H. Owens, and Dr. T.L. Walker by the former from the time I came out of the service, some in each year up to the time of said Dr. Owens death about the year 1875. Was then treated by Dr. Walker occasionally almost every year from the close of the war up to the time of said Walker's death, which was about the year 1874 - both of these physicians were my family physicians both before and since the war (they lived in Columbia, Ky) and my occupation both before and since the war was farming. I have performed some labor in each year, though have not been able to perform manual labor more than one forth of the time in each year since I came out of the U.S. Army, and further sayeth not except I am now not able to do any hard manual labor this 23rd day of April 1880. And that he is a Pensioner of the United States duly Enrolled in the Louisville Agency at the rate of Four Dollars per month by certificate No 223479. Deponent states, that his disability has increased to such an extent that he believed himself entitled to an Increase Pension commensurate with his rank and would respectfully request an Examination order before an Examining Surgeon in order to determine the degree of his disability. Adair County Court Invalid Increased No. 223 479 GENERAL AFFIDAVIT State of Kentucky, County of Adair In the matter of Pension claim of Mary B. Patteson widow Capt. Oliver B. Patteson personally appeared before me, a notary within and for the county and state afore said, E.B. Barbee, aged 27 years; a resident of Columbia, County of Adair, and State of Kentucky, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn according to law, states in relation to the above named claim as follows: That he was personally acquainted with Captain Oliver B. Patteson. That he was driving a wagon out from Columbia on the Jamestown Road and about two miles from Columbia he noticed a horse standing in the road and a man lying in the road. States that he and John Stone got off their wagons and went up to where the horse and man were and found that it was Capt. Patteson and that he was lying on his side with face on ground and was breathing were hard and think he lived about 15 minutes after affiant and Stone reached him. States that his horse was standing beside him with the bridle reins over one wrist of his arm. This was on Monday Morning, March 27th 1893. Affiant further states that he has no interest in said case, and is not concerned in its prosecution. E.B. Patteson, who, being duly sworn, declares that she is the lawful widow of Oliver B. Patteson, deceased; that he died on the 27th day of March 1893; that he had been granted a pension by Certificate No. 223479 which is herewith returned (or if not, state why not) See Enclosed Certificate; that he had been paid a pension by the Pension Agent at Louisville, KY up to the 4th day of February 1893, after which date he had not been employed or paid in the Army, Navy, or Marine service of the United States, except ----------------; that she was married to the said Oliver B. Patteson on the 4th day of May, 1865, at Columbia, in the State of Kentucky, that her name before said marriage was Mary B. Russell; that she had not been previously married; that her husband had been previously married, which marriage had been dissolved by death of former wife prior to 1865; that she hereby makes application for the pension which had accrued on aforesaid certificate to the date of death; and that her residence in Montpelier, County of Adair, State of Kentucky, and her Post Office address is Montpellier, Ky. Patteson, who died on the 27th day of March, 1893, and that their means of knowledge that said parties were husband and wife, and that the husband died on said date, are as follows: That they lived near neighbors to the deceased and were intimately acquainted with him and the claimant, and know these facts from their own personal knowledge.
