Biography # 5463 William HAMILTON was born 01-July-1828 in Adair (now Metcalfe) County KY, and is the sixth of five sons and two daughters born to William and Mary T. (BUTLER) HAMILTON, who were natives of KY. The father was a farmer and slave owner and immigrated to Metcalfe County in about 1805. He owned 150 acres of good land and died in Apr-1863, aged seventy-six years. He was a son of John HAMILTON who married Susan TODD. John was born in Ireland and his wife in Marion County KY. John HAMILTON immigrated to America before the Revolution, was a soldier in that struggle, and received a pension. He settled in Marion County KY, about 1780 or 1785, and was one of the first settlers on East Fork of Little Barren River. Mrs. Mary T. HAMILTON was born and reared in Culpeper County, Va., a daughter of James BUTLER who married Drucilla COBLER. James BUTLER emigrated from Virginia about 1800 and settled on East Fork where a farm was purchased and improved. William HAMILTON was reared on a farm and remained with his parents until the age of twenty-three, when he married Malissa Frances KINNAIRD of Adair County, a daughter of Stewart and Isyphena (PATTERSON) KINNAIRD. To Mr. and Mrs. HAMILTON was born one child, William H. They are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. After his marriage, Mr. HAMILTON located where he now resides, on 125 acres; (he) now owns 170 acres, eighty-five of which are cleared and in a good state of cultivation, improved with a good residence, all of which he has acquired by his own industry. In politics he is a Democrat and cast his first presidential vote for Pierce.
