“A VERY SAD DEATH”
“Last week we mentioned the fact that Mrs. Dessie COWHERD, who was Miss Maggie
CUNDIFF before her marriage, had suddenly died at her home one mile from
Columbia, the end coming early Tuesday morning.  The deceased was a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. P. V. CUNDIFF, her father being dead one year to the day, and a
Sister of W. J., Rollin, Horace, Wood, and Stanley CUNDIFF and two sisters,
Misses Hallie and Bettie CUNDIFF. On Christmas Day, 1921, she was married to
Mr. Dessie COWHERD,  a prosperous young farmer, who lived at Coburg and after
the marriage the couple went to the CUNDIFF home to reside.  They were happy in
the love of each other, and it is especially sad to note this separation by death
in so short a time after their marriage vows. Besides her husband, Mrs. COWHERD
leaves a little son, about three months old. The funeral services were held at
the residence Wednesday afternoon, many relatives and friends being present. The
services were conducted by Elder Luther YOUNG, of Dunnville, and at his
conclusion the remains were conveyed to Cane Valley where they rest under a bank
of flowers. The deceased was a teacher before her marriage and her last work was
in the Columbia Graded School, having been employed in that institution for two
years. She was a young woman of strong character, and her lovable disposition
made her a great favorite. May the clods rest lightly above her and may all
relatives be reconciled to the will of God, is the wish of the writer.”
