Death of Popular Youngster Saddens Hearts of Entire Town Of Columbia. Immense Crowd At Funeral. Pat COFFEY, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. S.F. COFFEY, died at midnight Friday at the Baptist Hospital in Louisville after being ill for many weeks. He was born in Granite OK 17-Mar-1916 but had spent most of his life in Columbia. His parents being natives of this county, both members of prominent families, they returned here to make their home when he was a very small child. He was one of the most popular youngsters in the community, having a happy disposition and bright, sunny smile which endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. Throughout his long illness, the prayer of many friends was that he might recover. He was a student at the Columbia Graded School, was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and belonged to the Boy Scouts. He is survived by his parents, a younger sister Julia COFFEY, and one older brother Kenneth COFFEY. The remains were brought here from Louisville Saturday afternoon. Reverend Arthur GROSS, a beloved friend of Pat's, came from Greenville KY to conduct the services at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and one of the largest crowds ever attending a funeral in Columbia gathered. The Boy Scouts, with Scoutmaster Louis COFFEY, attended in a body and marched in the funeral procession to the City Cemetery where the remains were laid to rest. It is seldom that as many beautiful flowers are seen as had been sent by the many friends and relatives. The pallbearers were Billie BULLARD, Todd JEFFRIES, Russell WILSON, Preston SINCLAIR, Duncan STOKES, and John MURRELL Jr. Surnames: BULLARD, COFFEY, GROSS, JEFFRIES, MURRELL, SINCLAIR, STOKES, WILSON *********************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
