H. C. Ogles 1942 The above caption correctly describes my friends, Mr. & Mrs. Sam Sarver who live near Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Allen Co., Kentucky, where I recently assisted in a revival. I was a visitor in their comfortable home one day, and while there I was handed a New Testament printed in such large, clear type that it was easy for these fine, elderly persons to read. They reminded me that it was a gift to them in a special service that I held in the Methodist Church at Scottsville, while I was a pastor there. The gift was given to Mr. and Mrs. Sarver because they had been married longer then any other couple present. The fly leaf bore the following inscription: "The Book was presented to Mr. Samuel and Mrs. Mary Sarver by Rev. H. C. Ogles on February 27, 1938 for having been married the longest time at this special occasion". Mr. Sarver was born March 1, 1851. Mrs. Sarver was born November 19, 1854. They were married February 4, 1872. You will discover from these dates that they have been married nearly seventy-one years. Both are hale and hearty. It is easy for anyone to tell Mr. Sarver is an old man by looking at the wrinkles in his face, but he is proud of the fact that nothing but natural old age has put a single one of them there. Happy is the person, who, when the sunset approaches, can look back upon a life well spent that there will be no room for regrets in regards to the manner of life that has been lived. Mr. and Mrs. Sarver lived in Franklin, Simpson Co., KY a short while at one time in their lives and remember the Franklin people very kindly. May Heaven's blessings smile on this fine old couple and upon all whom faltering footsteps are finding their tedious way down the sunset slope of life's strange Hill! Additional Comments: Samuel Sarver was born in Allen Co., KY to Wyatt and Rachel Anderson Sarver. Samuel Sarver died 19 March 1947 and his wife Mary Frances Stringer died 12 March 1945.
