They are Courtney Jean Pearson, 13, of Scottsville, and Laura Jean Pearson, 20, of Logansport, Ind. Both had been asleep in an upstairs bedroom at the house on Trammell Road, which was engulfed by flames when volunteer firefighters arrived. Both died of smoke inhalation. Kentucky State Police said the blaze started when grease caught fire in the kitchen. A man and a boy, 12, escaped. Courtney had been staying with relatives in Scottsville and attended school there. She would have been an eighth-grader at James E. Bazzell Middle School. Courtney's survivors include her father, James A. Pearson of Delphi, Ind.; a brother, Kristopher Pearson; and her grandmother, Helen Pearson of Delphi. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Walker's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Allen County. Visitation is at Goad Funeral Home after 9:30 a.m. today.
