School closed in 1955. Cliburn School is one of the oldest in the county, was located near Carpenter's Mill on Long Creek. It started in1830 and many of the children who lived on the west side of Long Creek attended there. They included CALVERT, CARPENTER, CLIBURN, FISHBURN, HOLDER, PITCHFORD, SHAW and STINSON families. Catherine Ann BROWEN (Kitty CLIBURN) was a teacher for over 40 yeas. During the Civil War, the school was moved about a mile up the road near where Mt Gilead Church now stands.
