They named the area New Roe meaning small deer and after an old VA town called Roe. The deed establishing the school here was written in 1912. Early trustees included B F ANTHONY, Mc R CHANEY, S B BUNCH, I N SHERRY, L B POTTS, J E GARRETT, David POTTS, Clark ANTHONY, W D GARRETT and Jarvis BOREN. Teachers included: E V DOWELL, Herschell HUNTSMAN, Elta CRAGON, Floye MAYHEW, W C LAMB, Verbal WAGONER, Delbert FERRELL, Eva Mae MAYHEW, Earline MAYHEW, Arlie P MACON, Prudie HARLL, Vera MODRALL, Essie WALKER, Jewell EUBANKS, Vera MITCHELL, Alma KENNEDY, Georgie McCLARY and Bailey LYLE.
