ALLEN COUNTY, KY SCHOOLS ROCKY HILL SCHOOL Submitted by Sandi Gorin September 19, 2001 ROCKY HILL SCHOOL In the 1800's, there was a school called Thorn Hill. Later, the school was relocated to a more central area, land was purchased from J D FOWLER on the Perrytown Road at the intersection of Perrytown-Alonzo Roads. People in the area gave money for the school as the county and state wouldn't provide funds. The school, Rocky Hill, had as early trustees: W A DENNIS, Emery TERREL, R W Twrril, J W LAMB, A W HILL, C MAYHEW, Edgar CLINE, C H MAYHEW, Albert O'NEAL & E WADE. Teachers included Enole STAMPS, Grace PITCHFORD, Porter LAMB, BIshop WADE, Earl MEADOR, a Mr TAYLOR, Jodie HINTON, Goldie TRAVELSTEAD WYGAL, Virginia HOOD, Harold WEST, Lillian LANE, Lillian PERRY, Aubrey LAMB, Floy MAYHEW, Hazel LAMBERT, Mae McREYNOLDS OVERHOLTS, Eva MAYHEWE and Annie WILLIAMS. The school was closed about 1944-1945 along with Rocky Hill, Stony Point, New Roe and New Middle Fork. The class photo of 1912, Jess WAKEFIELD teacher, shows the following students.
