DEEDS: BURGIN, William, Anderson Co., 1827 Submitted by: Wildburg@aol.com (Diane Burgin) 30 Jan 1999 Deed Book A, p. 88-89 Original Deed of William Burgin Nov. 12, 1827 containing 500 acres This Indenture made and entered into this seventh day of July in the year of Lords, One thousand, eight hundred and twenty seven, between Ralph Phillips of the state of New Jersey, for himself and as agent for Jonathan Willis, of the state of Pennsylvania and city of Philadelphia, and Samuel Wilcox of the state and city above written, of the one part and William Burgine of the county of Anderson, and state of Kentucky of the other part, Witnesseth, That the said Ralph Phillips, for himself, and as agent for Jonathan Willis and Samuel Wilcox, for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars, in the notes on the Commonwealth Bank of Kentucky, to them in hand paid by the said William Burgine, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknow- ledge themselves fully satisfied & paid hath bargained, sold, aliened, enfe__fed and confirmed, and doth by these presents, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff?, and confirm unto the said William Burgine, his heirs and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land, lying and being in the County of Anderson, on the waters of Big Willow Creek, being a part of Story and Willis’Twelve thousand Seven hundred acre survey and including the farm on which said William Burgine now resides, and bounded as follows to wit: Beginning at a mulberry & Dog Wood corner to Jeremiah Searcy, and with his line, South 17 East 48 poles to three beech on Searcy’s line, and with the same, South 1 degree East 24 poles to a sugar tree, South 10 degree West 154 poles to a large poplar in the head of a hollow, thence South 79 West 82 poles to two sugar trees in a branch and down the same with its meanders, N. 36 West 32 poles, North 53 west 16 poles, North 67 West 34 poles, North 76 west 10 poles, North 64 west 20 poles, South 82 west 48 poles to the fork of said branch, and down the main fork North 43 West 36 poles, North 27 west 20 poles, North 50 west 16 poles North 56 west 20 poles, North 75, west 16 poles, North 84 West 14 poles to an ash, buckeye, and two sugar trees on Story and Willis’ original line, and with the same North 1 degree 30 East 272 poles to a large white oak and two sugar trees on a ridge, thence south 65 East 375 poles to the beginning, containing five hundred acres. Together with all manner of privileges and appurtenances thereunto being & thereunto belonging. To have and to hold the said Five hundred acres of land, unto the said William Burgine, and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Ralph Phillips, for himself, and as agent for Jonathan Willis and Samuel Wilcox, doth covenant and agree, to and with the said William Burgine, his heirs, and so forth, will warrant and forever defend the said tract of land from themselves, their heirs forever. It is further understood between the said Ralph Phillips, Jonathan Willis and Samuel Wilcox, that if the five hundred acres of land should be lost in due course of law by any prior or conflicting claim, then the said Ralph Phillips, Jonathan Willis and Samuel Wilcox, binds and obliges themselves, their heirs and so forth to refund to the said William Burgine, the purchase money with out interest. In witness whereof, the said Ralph Phillips hereby sets his hand for himself, and as agent for Samuel Wilcox & Jonathan Willis, the day & year first above written. Johnson, clerk of the county court for the county aforesaid do hereby certify that this deed from Ralph Phillips, for himself and as agent for Jonathan Willis & Samuel Wilcox, to William Burgine, was this day produced to me in my office, and proved by the oaths of James Leathers and Thomas Burgine, two of the subscribing witnesses thereto to be the act of Deed of the said Ralph Phillips for himself and as agent as aforesaid. Whereupon, the said Deed, together with the foregoing certificate, hath been duly admitted to record in my office.
