Will Bk. _ p. 118 #89 David Griffy's (Griffey , Griffie ) will Be it remembered that I David D. Griffy of the county of Anderson and state of Kentucky, being weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory and knowing the uncertainty of this life and believing all men must die and being desirous to dispose of all such worth by Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with, do hereby make my last will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say 1st I give and bequeath to my wife Nancy Griffy all my estate, both real and personal of what nature or kind it may be, during her natural life, provided she continues my widow, not hereafter otherwise disposed, but should she marry again, she shall be just to draw third part, except a negro woman named Ellen which woman, my wife may hold during her natural life, provided her second husband shall give good and ample security for the forth coming of said negro woman with her increase, at the death of my wife Nancy Griffy, in order that she said negro woman with her increase, may then be equally divided among our children that my wife Nancy has given birth to or that may be here after born but in case my wife continues or remained my widow, all of my estate as above written to remain hers during her natural life and after her death to be divided or disposed of in --form and manner following that is to say the above negro woman named Ellen and her increase to be equally divided among all my children by my second wife Nancy Griffy or that she may here after have viz. Jordan W. Griffy, Leroy D. Griffy, Elvina Griffy, Sarah Jane Griffy, William Griffy and Anthony C. Griffy. And a certain negro boy named Edmund at the death of my wife Nancy provided she remains my widow to be equally divided between my first children by my first wife Elizabeth, John B. Griffy and Laurinda Griffy, should either John B. Griffys or Laurinda Griffy die without heirs before my wife Nancy Griffy, their stepmother then and instead can the other one to have the aforesaid negro boy Edmond, but in case both John B. Griffy and Laurinda Griffy should die without heirs before the death of their stepmother the second negro boy to descend to my second wife Nancy Griffy but should my wife marry again, then and in that case, the aforesaid Negro boy Edmond shall descend to John B. Griffy and Laurinda Griffy forth et al upon the condition above named. 2nd All the rest of my estate both real and personal of what nature or kind it may be I desire at the death of my wife Nancy Griffy shall be equally divided among all my children, both by my first wife and my second wife, viz. John B. Griffy, Laurinda Griffy, Jordan W. Griffy, Leroy A. or D. Griffy, Elvinia Griffy, Sarah Jane Griffy, William Griffy, and Anthony C. Griffy. But should my wife Nancy Griffy marry again, the division to be made among my children as soon after her marriage as practicable, according to the conditions of this will. 4th I(no 3rd) It is my wish and desire that my beloved wife Nancy Griffy sell such property as she can best spare and pay all my debts. This my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other or former wills or Testaments by me heretofore made. In witness I have hereunto set hand and official my seal this 30th of April 1847. I Jordan Walker, Clerk of this county court for the county aforesaid do certify that at a county court held for the county aforesaid, at the courthouse in Lawrenceburg on Monday this 14 day of June 1847 this writing purporting to be the last will and Testament of David D. Griffy, dec. was produced in court and proven by the oaths of Edwin E. Hawkins and Elijah Gudgill the two subscribing witnesses is thereto to be the act and desire of the said David D. Griffy, decd.
